Mural Colectivo Brigada Ramona Parra

The mural was made in 2012 within the framework of the 1st Urban Intervention Festival "Hecho en Casa", where the Ramona Parra Brigade Collective dedicated two days of collective and participatory painting in one of the GAM patios.
They were freely invited to join this mural, whose purpose was to demand rights and denounce the abuse of citizens by businessmen and politicians. Emphasis is also placed on the horrendous overexploitation of our natural resources, leaving artisanal fishermen empty-handed.
In fifteen meters by four, a sinister machinery is shown, which begins to eat everything it finds in its path (with a dead person inside its jaws). The next victims are the fisherman who rescues marine food, the Mapuche who displays his symbols, the young student who postulates “Education of excellence for all Chileans” and demands “True history of Chile, indigenous languages, free and inclusive education, now.” The furthest from the predatory mechanism is a miner who demands: “Copper for Chile now.”

Mural Brigade of the Communist Party of Chile. The essential thing for its muralists is to deliver a meaningful message to ordinary passers-by.
There is a whole iconography that characterizes this style that includes elements such as the spike, the fist, the star, the birds and the workers.
This precursor movement of art in public spaces in Chile has given a visual identity to the guidelines of the communist party and the popular culture linked to it. In its self-definition, the brigade states that “it was born around the political struggle and was organized with one goal: to impact with shapes and colors, hand in hand with a strong and tough message.”
