Community Murals is a project under the programmatic line of ecosocial justice, which seeks to involve communities in the creative processes of two renowned Chilean artists. The final works will intervene on the façade of GAM and will seek to make visible our codependency with the other beings of nature.
Seguros SURA and GAM organized a new community project together with the prominent national artists Macarena Pium and Michael Yaikel, who intervened on the façade of the building with murals inspired by the programmatic line of ecosocial justice.
For the development of Community Murals, both artists were invited to raise awareness regarding the current ecological crisis and the impact of our footprint on the planet.
Pium and Yaikel carried out the creative process of this project together with the communities that have participated throughout the year in the GAM Huerta and the members of the BiblioGAM +60 Reading Club.
“This mural is called Let's heal our lands, which has to do with the soil erosion that exists in our country due to extractivism, indiscriminate logging, monoculture, water diversion, and all the eco-social violence that exists in Chile. We wanted to make this problem visible through this zoomorphic representation, a black fox that is healing the earth with her hands and fertilizing it.”

Process
“Given the context we are in, where the eco-social damage has already been done, it seems key to regenerate natural landscapes and ecosystems, and the paintings are about that. In these paintings there is a mixture of sadness and hope, but the main thing is to show nature so that people appreciate and care for it, and to show it in a city context, where nature is disappearing.”
