During 2022 GAM commemorated half a century of the building with innovative artistic actions and in-room programming. On Sunday, April 3, the UNCTAD 360º Project was launched, the Mural of the embroiderers of Isla Negra was unveiled, and a tribute was also made to the key people in the design and construction of the original building such as Miguel Lawner, Irma Cáceres, Hugo Gaggero, Eduardo Martínez Bonati and the artists of the collection.

Tribute

“It is an emblematic date for us because we celebrate the construction of one of the most iconic buildings in Santiago, modern architecture. It played a very important role in history and opened with more than 40 functional works by Chilean artists. Today that legacy is maintained, in an open space for culture and people, with the recovery of the original art collection and a sense of citizenship linked to the place where we are located.”

— Felipe Mella, executive director of GAM.

“The building that was built with UNCTAD III today is more than a physical space, it is a symbolic construction on a living territory. The GAM would not exist without the programmatic inspiration that it has found in the memory of a people, in the voices of a citizenry and in the continuous legacy of its workers in so many areas, including the world of culture.”

— Pamela López, director of programming and audiences at GAM.
