GAM receives a new cycle to appreciate baroque music as a living art that surprises, excites and dialogues with diverse audiences and the city. An event of three concerts on six dates, which will allow you to discover and get closer to this musical style from the heart of contemporary cultural activity.
The New World Baroque Orchestra will be in charge of giving life to the first date of the cycle, presenting a program with different genres of the baroque par excellence:
- Michael Praetorius: LA BROSSE – LA BOURRÉ
- Claudio Monteverdi, from his opera Orfeo (1607): Toccata, Dance of Nymphs and Shepherds – Vi ricorda o boschi ombrosi
- Maurizio Cazzati: Passacaglia
- Francesco Cavalli: Apollo's Lament
- Maurizio Cazzati: Ciaccona
- Johann Sebastian Bach: Cantata BWV 82 “Ich Habe Genug”
The New World Baroque Orchestra is a Chilean initiative that emerged from self-management, dedicated to the historically informed interpretation of ancient music. Founded in 2012 in the O'Higgins Region, the group has developed sustained work around the dissemination of musical heritage, the recovery of historical instruments and the decentralization of artistic activity.
It is one of the few Latin American groups with annual programming and a stable cast specialized in this repertoire. The quality of his productions earned him an invitation to the historic Teatro Colón in 2019, where he presented Selva morale e spirituale by Claudio Monteverdi, obtaining an outstanding reception from the public and critics. Among its distinctive characteristics is the use of historical instruments, such as violas da gamba, psalterios, theorbas and dulcians, several of them built by local artisans specially trained for this purpose, thus contributing to the preservation of crafts linked to ancient music.”
