Before opening his long-awaited exhibition at the Cerrillos National Center for Contemporary Art, the prominent Dutch artist Theo Jansen will speak at GAM about creation, environment, nature, evolution, chance and mathematics. The conference organized by Fundación Mar Adentro and GAM will also be broadcast live thanks to Mediastream.
The artist Theo Jansen is the creator of light and portentous kinetic, mechanical sculptures built from mathematical algorithms and simple materials – plastic tubes for electrical installations – that come to life when moving with the force of the wind.
He has dedicated himself to this work for 27 years, and behind its manufacture an extensive thought about creation, physics, nature and the environment unfolds. He has spoken about these topics throughout the world, in conferences at art and science centers.
On April 12, 2018, at 11 a.m., he will offer an open conference at GAM. Two days later, the great exhibition Algorithms of the Wind will open at the Cerrillos National Center for Contemporary Art. Based on his ideas and work, an extensive educational program has also been designed that will be carried out in Santiago and regions through the CECREA centers of the National Council of Culture and the Arts.
