Symbolic recovery: Roberto Matta and Gracia Barrios

Disappeared with the coup d'état after the consequent use of the building that today houses GAM as the headquarters of the military junta, the works donated by the most important artists of the time to UNCTAD III in 1972, were withdrawn suffering an unknown and uninspiring fate.

Among the original works were also Multitud III by Gracia Barrios and Let's become the inner guerrilla to give birth to a new man by Roberto Matta. Both recovered pieces belong to the Salvador Allende Solidarity Museum, and return temporarily as a symbolic recovery that is part of the MSSA Memory Exercise initiative 40 years of the Coup.

Crowd III
A large painting worked as a tapestry depicting a crowd, is the work that Barrios created in his workshop in Ñuñoa, during the summer of 1972, with the help of the then sculpture student at the BBAA Faculty, Graciela Córdova.

Housed in the UNCTAD entrance hall, after the Coup it was dismantled and pawned in the Pledge Credit Fund. Years later it came into the hands of its owner who in 2005 gave it to the MSSA collection.

Let's become a guerrilla...
Sent by Matta from France, it was set up at the entrance to the plenary rooms on the main level of the building for its inauguration. After the Coup it was entered into the inventories of the National Museum of Fine Arts. This large oil painting on canvas (200 x 490.4 cm) was given on loan to the MSSA in 2000 and has since been exhibited in various exhibitions in Chile and abroad.
