Celebrating 60 years since the first publication of Humor de Quino and 50 years since the first publication of Mafalda, QUINO por Mafalda emerges as a tribute exhibition. The exhibition covers some of the themes that Quino's ingenuity and talent reflect in his unforgettable drawings. The proposal is to accompany Mafalda, its most iconic and endearing character, on a tour of its creator's graphic humor production.
Power, peace, the world, politics, humanity, religion are some of the topics that occupied Quino from the 1950s onwards and the subtlety of his view keeps the reflection on these themes current.
Joaquín Lavado, Quino, was born in Mendoza in 1932 into a family of Andalusian immigrants. At the age of 18, his aspiration to become a comic artist led him to move to the city of Buenos Aires. There he began to work in different graphic media. In 1964 Mafalda was published for the first time in the magazine Primera Plana. In 1973 Quino decided to stop publishing Mafalda but continued to work as a prolific humorist. Throughout his career he has received multiple awards, including the Legion of Honor and the Prince of Asturias Award.
Quino is an indisputable figure of Argentine culture throughout the world, who has masterfully portrayed the deepest and most everyday problems of our society. His thoughts have crossed generations and his characters have accompanied us throughout 60 years of history.
