spring of youth

Nine young artists, together with the curator Matías Allende, investigated a period in which none of them was born: 1964 to 1973. A time of social and economic transformations, marked by the Young Homeland and the University Reform. His mission was to create works that connected that artistic, urban and political past with contemporary national production. Two moments of change separated by time, but united by their artistic creation.

The result is Spring of Youth, an exhibition with unpublished works by Caiozzama, Pitzi Cárdenas, Josefina Concha, Beatrice di Girolamo, Vicente Matte, Matthew Neary, NETO, Isidora Villarino and Maite Zubizarreta. There are intervened photographs, installations, paste-up, textiles, video, painting, drawing and sculpture. From their different techniques, the works dialogue with the creation of artists who contributed with their work to the UNCTAD III building, such as Nemesio Antúnez, Félix Maruenda and Manzanito; and also with the spirit of the time.

The exhibition, coordinated by Nicole Andreu, is supported by the Cultural Corporation of the Chilean Chamber of Construction, sponsored by UNESCO, sponsored by ENGIE, and organized by Revista ED, GAM and production company Kraneo, who are grateful for the work of heirs, institutions, in particular the Félix Maruenda Foundation for collaboration in the permits, and all those who in some way have worked to keep alive the legacy of the artists who inspire it.

The exhibition will have four accompanying activities that will focus on collective dynamics that will address themes related to the spirit of contemporary youth.

Dance As You Want
The GAMERA Collective organizes DANCE AS YOU WANT! An invitation suitable for everyone, regardless of age or favorite step.  The proposal is to dance to DJ Maxi Cat's funky rhythm as you like, alone or accompanied, for the sole pleasure of dancing.

The Weight of the Nation
A large flag measuring 13x 9 meters. from Chile and Colombia will be crocheted live for 9 hours.  The performative action is called “The weight of a nation” and links the concepts of nation, migration, bodies and labor exploitation.  Clothes donated by migrants residing in Chile are used, which are turned into threads and end up being crocheted by the artists Luna Acosta and Paula Baeza Pailamilla.

Conversation “45 years since UNCTAD III”
Multidisciplinary conference with experts, who will discuss the historical repercussions of the Third United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, and the construction of its building in Santiago, Chile 45 years ago.
