Independence

Independencia is an exhibition of contemporary art that seeks to reflect and question the Chilean visual identity. 200 years after the declaration of Independence of Chile, 10 artists convened by curator Matías Allende focus on national emblems, materials, landscapes and workers that mainly mark the last 100 years of our history.

In his works, installations and interventions of painting, sculpture, textiles and photography, different aspects of national identity are addressed that together pose a critique of national and Latin American history. This is how, for example, pop culture, feminism, the city, industry, traditions and migration appear.

The artists participating in the exhibition are Jessica Briceño, Santiago Cancino, Magdalena Contreras, Víctor Flores, Constanza Giuliani, Hugo Leonello, Sebastián Mejía, Aranzazu Moena, Francisco Rodríguez and Pilar Trujillo. The way his works will be installed in the room seeks to generate a dialogue between them, rather than isolating them to clarify their authorship.

Session I: January 19, 7 p.m. - Studying Pop: Double launch of zines "Pensando Purpose" and "Pensando a la One"

“Emancipatory declarations for cyborg”
Session II: January 26, 7 p.m. - The golden age of Chilean soap operas
Panelists: Katherinne Lincopil (researcher in art and literature), Carol Illanes (researcher in visual culture), Pía Vargas (journalist). 

Session III: February 2, 7 p.m. - Cinema, new art, nor so recent procedure
Panelists: Graciela Marín (researcher in visual culture), Antonella Estévez (Journalist, FEMCINE, Cine Chile and author of two investigations on cinema), Constanza Alarcón (visual artist).
