More than 140 photos, original records, documents and nearly 10 hours of audiovisual recording review the development of this musical genre in the country.
It is not known exactly when jazz first appeared in Chile, but this exhibition begins before that indeterminate beginning. The first precedent occurs in Valparaíso in September 1860, when the Ethiopian Minstrels group brought African-American sounds for the first time.
History of jazz in Chile reviews the development of the genre in the country based on the book of the same name by Álvaro Menanteau, a musicologist who carried out the research and created the texts in the exhibition. An 18-meter timeline reviews the most notable milestones. It also exhibits documents, such as the 1951 notarial deed that founded the Santiago Jazz Club, original vinyl and CDs, period publications, photographs and two seasons of Red Jazz, a program on the La Red channel that showed live Chilean jazz players in the 90s.
