Abyayala in Wallmapu: Weaving health and thought

This exhibition features textiles created by the Chuñu Chuñuni, Amuzga, Shipibo Conibo, Guna, Chancay, Aymara, Williche and Mapuche textile artists. All woven with various techniques, such as warp with natural Andean dyes, stake loom fabrics, pre-Hispanic gauze fabrics, fabrics with native cottons from Xochistlahuaca, among others.

The exhibition is part of the “Abyayala Textiles Meeting in Wallmapu and Aymar Uraquina:weaving health and thought”, organized by the Mapuche visual artist and weaver Loreto Millalén, who seeks with this event to contribute to raising awareness about the knowledge and operational chains that support the life of textiles. "It is important to make visible the network of interconnections of sciences, techniques, technologies and arts associated with care sciences emanating from textiles and their creation," he adds.

The textile works presented are a reflection of community, family, transgenerational education and coexistence with the territory. Participating in this exhibition are the artists Delia Pizarro and Juana Reategui (Shipibo-Konibo, Peru); Patricio Mamani and Virginia Espinoza (Chuñu Chuñuni, Bolivia); Argenida Arango and Dimitry Díaz (Guna, Panama); Esteban Nazario (Chancay, Peru); Yecenia López de Jesús (Amuzgo, Mexico); Carmen Huaylla, Viviana Villalobos and Silvia Mendoza Condori (Aymara, Chile); Adriana Tureuna (Williche, Chile); Mapuche Textile Art School Ad Llallin (Mapuche, Chile). 

"We want to irrigate this knowledge and reflection for the strength of the people's own thinking, the generation of new knowledge and thoughts, contributing to the project of self-determination, autonomy and life in fullness of the new generations of the people of our continent and the world," concludes Loreto Millalén.
