Trovarsi / Find yourself

Seduced by the intelligence and way of approaching the subject of Aliocha de la Sotta (The Bad Class), Claudia Di Girolamo accepted the role of “the actress” in her version of Trovarsi/Encontrarse. In the director's adaptation of Luigi Pirandello's original text, the actor's craft is stressed, questioning the fiction or reality that an interpreter has in his real life.

"It does not refer to the role of the actor in society, nor to the one he has with his company or in the theater, but rather that of one in front of oneself. What is it to be a woman and to be an actress? Does being a woman prevent one from being an actress or being an actress prevents one from being a woman?", reflects Di Girolamo on the issues he must face in the work where he shares the stage with Alessandra Guerzoni, Monserrat Estévez, María Paz Grandjean, Andrea Giadach, Nicolás Zárate, Rodrigo Leal and Julio Escobar, and which he describes as “very attractive, interesting, philosophical and psychoanalytical.”

Although this more experimental version chooses to decontextualize the story – the original was written by the Italian Nobel Prize winner in 1932, dedicated to his muse Marta Abba in the midst of the fascist era –  it includes certain apprehensions that are raised there regarding the profession at a time when being an actress was something very exceptional.  "We wanted to bring it to us today and see what is similar to what was written there. Finally, the role with oneself does not change. I had never stopped to question that. Regarding prejudices, we wonder if they still exist: that it is a prostitute, light, loose, that it is a world full of drug addicts and homosexuals. And there are many personal experiences in this regard that there still are." 

Although the protagonist considers that it is a complex and complicated proposal – “it is not easy to get into the psychology and almost the psychosis of the actors” – she believes that this content can easily be extended to the entire public. "It is very transversal because it raises super-human questions. How true I am with myself when I am with others. Finally we end up faced with a single question that we often do not want to answer: how consistent I am," he concludes.
