Thebes Land

Martín killed his father with a fork and is serving time in prison. There comes a playwright who wants to talk to him, looking for material to write a play. Their meetings on the prison basketball court, the process of creating the work and the rehearsals with the actor who will play the parricide in the production is what happens in Tebas Land.

Paternity, violence, representation and creation intersect in this rereading of the Greek tragedy of Oedipus that the award-winning Uruguayan playwright Sergio Blanco (Montevideo, 1971) wrote in 2012. Now Lucía de la Maza directs this new staging that is performed by Freddy Araya and Lucas Balmaceda.

"With the actors we have highlighted the public process of construction of the work. Also the relationship between two human beings who, without knowing each other, find themselves in a remote and inhospitable place and despite that, manage to have a relationship of immeasurable affection," explains the director.

The text, which has had versions in Argentina, Germany, France and England, received the Off West End award for the best production of the year in London last year. The premiere of this Chilean version is made with the sponsorship of the Embassy of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay and DIRAC.
