There is the official story and the others. And among those others is The Year I Was Born, a work that portrays the dictatorship through young people born during that period.
They tell what their parents did then and reconstruct it from traces such as photos, letters, clothes and memories. Eleven personal stories that put together a map with coordinates that serve to understand today's Chile and that, in the process, question the stereotypes left by the military regime.
The work travels on the borders between reality and fiction, the meeting between two generations, the remake as a way of reliving the past and modifying the future, the intersection between the history of the country and private history.
The Argentine director and playwright, Lola Arias, who was inspired by the recent history of Chile, shows a group of young people reconstructing the lives of their parents from photos, letters, used clothes and confusing memories. "What was my country like when I was born? What did my parents do? How many versions are there about what happened when I was so young that I don't even remember?" they ask. The actors in the play are interpreters of their own lives. In fact, only 3 are actors, but in The Year I Was Born they play their real lives.

The work premiered in May 2012, under the direction of Lola Arias, is the successful Chilean version of My life later, a production that the Argentine director and playwright made in her country.
