The pelican

Legend says that the mother pelican loves her babies so much that she feeds them with her own blood. The Pelican, a work written in 1907 by the Swedish author August Strindberg, focuses on that idea.

This family tragedy ironizes the myth of the bird, presenting a denaturalized mother who fights against her naive daughter for the love of the same man, while her son, disturbed by his childhood, gets drunk in order to continue living. The action begins with the death of the husband and the promise of an inheritance for his children. To take her away from him, the mother convinces her lover to marry her daughter.

The Teatro del Terror company has been experimenting with this dark genre for ten years, drawing inspiration mainly from the poetics of romanticism, gothic literature, and fantasy and horror films. In 2016, El pelicano was selected among the best works of the year to participate in the 6th Las Condes Young Theater Festival.
