Premiere of a new musical by the brothers Gopal and Visnu Ibarra Roa. A tribute to Violeta Parra with guest musicians every week: Gepe, Denise Rosenthal, Ana Tijoux and Max Vivar, from Villa Cariño.
“They sent me a letter / through the mail early / In that letter they tell me / that my brother was arrested.” This is how The Letter begins, a song that Violeta Parra wrote after her brother Roberto was arrested during a protest that, due to police and military action, ended up becoming the José María Caro Massacre.
This fact inspired the Ibarra Roa Brothers to create a musical that addresses different episodes of political violence, to pay tribute to Violeta Parra and her art of social struggle. The letter includes compositions by Parra along with original music composed by Cristóbal Montes.
The work is performed by a dancer, three actors and a citizen choir of 100 people. Each week they will perform with a guest musician: Gepe (April 20 and 21), Denise Rosenthal (April 26 to 28), Ana Tijoux (May 3 to 5) and Max Vivar (May 10 to 12).
