Inspired by the first voyage of Sinbad the Sailor, this work invites children and their families to imagine other ways of caring for the planet and living with nature. A creation of the Proyecto Fuego company that returns to GAM to ignite the imagination from the earliest ages.

During an eclipse, the Sun and the Moon—two characters who see everything from the darkness of outer space—tell us the story of Sinbad, a curious sailor who arrives in a place that seems like a paradise. You use its resources, declare it your home, and light a fire. Until he discovers that he is not on dry land, but on the back of a sleeping whale.

The whale, injured and confused, dives into the sea and takes him with her. There, in the depths of the ocean, Sinbad will witness how other creatures coexist in harmony, forming a balance, from which he has much to learn.

In his body, Sinbad discovers an ecosystem of different beings that, by supporting each other, become stronger. Thus, The islands also sleep raises the importance of valuing diversity, believing in equal rights and learning to live together while respecting others.

"It is an invitation to awaken our conscience and ask ourselves how we want to live on this Earth. I think that, just like Sinbad, we can imagine a new ending," comments María Paz González Durney, director and playwright.
