The epicedium

A carpet, a telephone and Héctor Noguera. Nothing else occupies the stage in El epicedio in the very stripped-down and praised staging that Noguera himself made of the text by Iakovos Kambanellis, father of contemporary Greek theater.

What is seen on stage is the phone call that an older writer makes to a sick colleague. He tells him about the funeral of another writer, who always seemed mediocre to him, full of praise that in his opinion he did not deserve. Then he proposes that they plan his funeral to achieve at least posthumous fame. Hence its name, since epicedium is a poetic work that praises a dead person.

Noguera, 2015 National Performing Arts Award, shines in this production by the Teatro Camino company that speaks with irony and humor about the egos, vanities and envies of art, and also about old age, illness and death.
