The bad class

A group of students waits for their teacher to take the last exam with which they will finally leave fourth grade. If they pass it. And precisely to make sure, they prepare a surprise with which they will also end up being surprised. This is the premise with which the work, released in 2009, raised the problems of Chilean education.

“We anticipated what was to come and in the end we chose to leave it as a photo of what was happening before the mobilizations,” comments its director, Aliocha de la Sotta, noting the recontextualization that the montage took. Even so, she is emphatic in pointing out that the bet is not limited only to that issue. "It is a story of democracy, about a country with dreams and frustrations. We see it in the teacher, in her fight for a system for which many gave their lives and which returns these vandals, and in the children who see a sinister future and ask themselves: Is this what life is going to give me?"

Original by Luis Barrales, winner of the 2010 Altazor award for national playwriting, The Bad Class delves into the company's motivation to develop a line of young theater, working to attract new audiences. “My dream is that the theaters are as full as when they show Spider-Man.” And they have signs of beginning to achieve it. To date it has been seen by more than 20 thousand people. "We have traveled almost all of Chile, from Puerto Williams to the north. We presented it in lots of high schools and had great feedback. We have been playing with teenagers for a while and they know it. The kids catch everything," he concludes.
