Frode Nielsen was sent to Chile with a mission: to open the Norwegian Embassy as a refuge during the dictatorship. This work is a tribute to that work.
During the dictatorship, Frode Nielsen converted the second floor of the Norwegian Embassy into a space that could house 30 people and for years he used it to help hundreds of Chileans leave the country. The ambassador is a tribute to that humanitarian work, directed by Rodrigo Malbrán and co-written by him and Andrea Gutiérrez
It is based on the true story of a woman who had been detained since 1972. It took Nielsen 8 years to get her out of Chile. “It is because of her that he began to get involved not only in removing refugees, but also prisoners, whose prison sentences were commuted for 'estrangement,'” explains the author.
A cast of young Norwegian actors performs this co-production of the Nord-Trøndelag University and the Norwegian Embassy in Chile.
