Sprinter

A bus driver claims to have been abducted while crossing the Atacama Desert. A mother searches for her kidnapped daughter. A woman is reunited with her mother after thirty years of disappearance. Through these three parallel stories we weave the story of revenge in this work that explores the limits of reality and nightmare.

Sprinter portrays the story of the abuses committed in Colonia Dignidad, in a universal work of humanity and redemption. The production explores horror in childhood and its reach in adulthood, offering an experience that combines the codes of cinema and theater.

On stage, Tomás Pablo Urzúa, Patricia Cuyul, Viviana Herrera and Luz Jiménez, build a choral story in which a bus accident brings together eight voices that investigate a traumatic event from the past. "The audience will find a thriller and a journey for 60 years in which the characters have the possibility of redeeming and forgiving themselves in the face of pain and impunity. The device of the work combines three temporalities that merge with the story of an alien abduction and a crime not yet solved," comments its co-director, Edison Cájas.

"The biggest challenge of this production was to find a language and an attractive code that could serve as a bridge to narrate themes related to the abuses in Colonia Dignidad. For us it was very important to find a way to relate certain events and how to carry them out on stage. Once we found the thriller format, we were able to find, at the same time, a way to open the discussion," adds Daniela Contreras-López.

The CC Creative Nucleus has for years addressed issues of Memory and Human Rights, investigating repression during the dictatorship and the horror in places like Colonia Dignidad. This search led to the first approach to the work, through BAVIERA, a digital commitment made in a pandemic that is the prelude to Sprinter. "That's when we began to pose the challenge of portraying these themes today, with all the crises that the country has had, in an attractive and avant-garde language," says Contreras-López.

"Colonia Dignidad is an open wound of impunity and no reparation with the dozens of Chilean and German victims who are still waiting for justice. For this reason, the characters in Sprinter are adults and not children. To install the problem in the present, for future generations and for a Chile of the future," concludes Cájas.
