Richard III, the warped prince

William Shakespeare portrayed a Richard III willing to do anything to be king, ambitious and bloodthirsty. More than 400 years later, Juan Radrigán imagined this character after the final blow, alone, facing death and the darkness of his own history.

Richard III, the misshapen prince, is a poetic text that investigates power and its abuse. The playwright himself gave it to Rodrigo Pérez, the director who has most edited the work for the National Award.

“The notable thing is that in this approach, Ricardo is not the bloodthirsty monster that we are accustomed to recognizing,” said critic Pedro Labra in El Mercurio about this staging produced by the Quilicura Cultural Corporation. And he added: “All the materials of this theatrical and intimate poetics are noble and up to the task.”
