Two rescuers search near an erupting crater for two missing people. They only find a backpack, which will be the container for stories of catastrophes, myths and sacrifices, creation and love for the territory. A volcanic science fiction story directed by Nicolás Espinoza that proposes to look without anguish at the bond that unites us to these mountains.

Stories of catastrophe, economic dependence, myths and immemorial sacrifices, creation and love of the territory. All, under the imposing gaze of a volcano that is about to erupt.

In Back to the volcano, a group of Andean rescuers gather and alert their community about the imminent eruption of the crater. Two people have been lost and only one backpack contains the story of various stories that tell the relationship between human communities and volcanoes. "Rough relationships, that flow and emerge like magma. Communities that live and die around the volcano," say its creators.

The work is the second creation of Plataforma Telúrica, a creative project by director Nicolás Espinoza, which reflects on the relationship between humans and the environment. Together with the playwright Juan Pablo Troncoso, they conceptualized the staging, limiting the research work to historical stories associated with six volcanic eruptions (Rucapillán, Licancabur, Lullaillacu, Laki, Chaitén and Nevados de Ruiz). "The selection of these volcanoes was determined because they highlight the radical impact of what we call volcanic performativity, that is, the agency affected by the mythical, cultural, political and economic experience of human communities," says Espinoza.

Return to the volcano offers the public a contemporary scenic language focused on the composition and interaction of narratives, dialogues, multimedia design, sound and live music. The project has the advice of CIGIDEN, Research Center for Integrated Disaster Risk Management, associated with the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and the sponsorship of the National Museum of Natural History.

"We want to propose a space for sensitive reflection that contributes to having a more integrated view of these natural events, to imagine ways of inhabiting the planet that recognize the determining agency of these phenomena in the configuration of the human experience," adds the director, Nicolás Espinoza.
