This theatrical museum creation inspired by the archives of The Black Ester returns. Directed by Samantha Manzur.
What traces does a work leave? Cuerpo pretérito works with remains of the original montage of La negra Ester, the famous adaptation that Andrés Pérez made of Roberto Parra's poem, to reconstruct and fictionalize his memory. “We work with the ruins, with the remains that history and legal limits leave us,” says the director, Samantha Manzur.
Here the theater room is transformed into a museum. Spectators move between museum pieces. There are fragments of props, costumes, scenery; brief visual and audiovisual records, and the choreography of movements of their characters performed by this new cast. There are also audio guides that talk about the work, cite testimonies and even give instructions.
Then a new piece is presented, a “theatrical sequel” written by Bosco Cayo. A story that could be a possible future of the original characters. What has been researched permeates it and a dialogue is created with its reference in the use of verse and music, gestures and themes: sexual work, love and AIDS.
This work was created in the Stage Direction Program organized by Goethe Institut and FITAM.
