Make Dad Great Again

In a world where TikTok, Facebook and conspiracy theory threads seem to have replaced reality, comes GAM Make Dad Great Again. This acid comedy-drama lands on a topic that, although it seems distant, has settled in the dining room of thousands of Chilean homes: the devastating impact of misinformation and how political radicalization can transform those we love most into complete strangers.

The story takes us to the heart of a Chilean family residing in the United States. The father, a man who was once the pillar of the home, has become a fanatical follower of Donald Trump, consumed by fake news and digital paranoia. Faced with his idol's imminent electoral defeat and his plans to join the 2021 assault on the Capitol, his family decides it is time for a desperate intervention. The goal? Make him open his eyes, abandon the absurd theories and, somehow, return to being the "cool" dad from before... or at least, one who isn't so scary.

Inspired by the shocking Washington Post report "I want my family back", the play portrays the real pain of thousands of people who lost their parents or siblings in the black hole of misinformation between 2016 and 2020. Under the direction of Equipo Teatro in its seventh staging, the piece uses the thesis of "The percussion of the word" to create a vibrant stage rhythm, where the dialogue not only communicates, but hits and resonates in a climate political as convulsed as ours.

Make Dad Great Again is not just a play about American politics; It is a mirror of current Chilean society, where polarization and discrimination advance through our cell phone screens. It is an invitation to laugh at the absurd, but also to reflect on the limits of family communication and mental health in the post-truth era. A powerful comedy, visually attractive and necessary for any audience who has ever had to silence a family WhatsApp group or argue with a "radicalized" relative at Sunday dinner.
