Losing it

Growing up in a war zone means living and breathing politics. Palestinian choreographer and performer Samaa Wakim questions how these experiences affect her identity in a new solo show - Losing It - that explores how the trauma of previous generations manifests in her own body through movement and sound.

On a journey to the moment when he began to fear for his freedom, the piece delves into the memories of his childhood under occupation, exploring the different realities in which he lives and the fantasies he has created out of fear and hope to survive. As fear takes over her, her world begins to disintegrate: the ground becomes unstable and sounds begin to warp, creating a world in which reality and fantasy merge.

Created in collaboration with a live score by Samar Haddad King, the soundscape includes field recordings made in Palestine since 2010. Accompanied by Wakim's voice, the sounds of fear and security come together to the point where the past and present cloud the future.

This show is presented by Sens Interdits within the framework of the Teatro a Mil Festival.
