Documentary stage investigation around the figure of Carlos Lehman, an official of the Chilean air force—who, posing as an artist—infiltrated leftist circles prior to the Coup d'état and then achieved fame by writing poems in the sky, leaving an enigmatic message: Learn from fire. It arrives at GAM within the framework of the XIV Santiago Off Festival.
For some, an artist possessed of a dark genius, for others a vulgar henchman of Pinochet's secret police; Anyway, a character who crossed poetry, performance and avant-garde visual arts with his crimes during the military dictatorship in Chile.
Through the analysis of his work, the archive and the testimony of Jaime Rivera (who was his teacher at the School of Fine Art), Colectivo Pierre Menard will try to follow the footprint of Carlos Lehman, describing who until now had only been known as a product of the literary imagination of Roberto Bolaño, but whose work—not at all fictional—opens questions about the ethical and legal limits of artistic production.
