La Chancha

A new creation, aimed especially at young audiences, arrives at GAM. Because a remake of La Chancha, by Luis Barrales, is being released, directed by Aliocha de la Sotta (La Mala Clase, Fumar por deporte) and the company La Mala Clase. The play opens the center's line of theater for teenagers, aimed at high school students.

"Young theater is something that we have been investigating for years. There are references everywhere. La Chancha's text talks about Chilean teenagers who prefer to die rather than live and we wanted to ask ourselves why," says De la Sotta. Let's kill ourselves together? A girl posts online and within minutes her comment has dozens of followers: victims of bullying, ignored by their families, suicides by inheritance, and members of urban tribes.

Six teenagers finally meet in this virtual forum, led by Emoticón. The idea? End their existence, but in a group. The thing is that everyone thinks that the only way for their life to have meaning is to rebel against the prospect of a mediocre destiny, deciding their own death. The play, starring Cecilia Herrera (The Spider Girls), Iván Parra, Antonio Altamirano, Nicolás Pavéz, Mónica Ríos and Paulina Giglio, will have six performances as part of FAMFEST.
