The Quemados Case inspired Pierre Sauré to create this work that proposes a new version of what could have happened with Carmen Gloria Quintana and Rodrigo Rojas de Negri.
Carmen Gloria Quintana and Rodrigo Rojas de Negri were burned alive by a group of soldiers in July 1986. Pierre Sauré investigated the case to create a work about these events. But in July of this year, reality changed: Conscript Fernando Guzmán broke the pact of silence and gave key information about what happened. Then the text of the work also changed.
Carmen Gloria Quintana, Rodrigo Rojas de Negri, her mother and a soldier will be represented in Selva. “The soldier went from being a guilty murderer to another victim of the dictatorship, with the conscripts also being people threatened and tortured to commit crimes,” explains Sauré, playwright and director of the production.
Located both in the present and in an imaginary past, the work addresses the official versions, but also proposes new views of what could have happened. What would have happened if Carmen Gloria and Rodrigo had met? What would have happened if they had been able to escape?
This theatrical performance is performed by Camila Hirane, Carolina Cheuquepán, Mariano Reyes and Gianfranco Bosisio. The play tries to do justice through theater and is called Jungle "for an analogy to 'city'. We live in a jungle of cannibal animals that kill each other. Carmen Gloria is trying to free herself from this jungle full of guilty people at large," says Sauré.
