An autistic woman who was “exiled” by her family 20 years ago during a celebration, returns as a surprise and without any resentment, which will transform the tranquility of a Christmas party. The award-winning work by actress, director and playwright Elisa Zulueta returns to GAM with four performances.

Uxue (Antonia Santa María) is an autistic girl who hopes to celebrate the traditional Twelfth Night with her two older brothers, Ian (Álvaro Viguera) and Lucía (Elisa Zulueta), her father Ander (Sergio Hernández) and her aunt Ane (Coca Guazzini). However, the unexpected visit of Gladys (Catalina Saavedra) from the United States – an autistic aunt whom she does not know – will generate strong controversy as she reveals, with her arrival, the secrets that led her to live isolated for so many years.
"Gladys seeks to return to realism. Without scenic effects other than the words and tools of the actor, return to the truth of real life, give the public a work that they understand, with which they are moved and reflected," says Elisa Zulueta.
Through a mixture of black humor and pain we see family situations with unexpected explosions, of ordinary families. Gladys quickly passes before your eyes through wit and irony, and without you realizing it, the pain of a family is happening that is a pain that is very much ours, very recognizable.
With more than 14 years in theaters, the production obtained the Altazor 2012 recognition for Best Dramaturgy, Best Direction, Best Actress and Best Actor. In addition to being chosen by Portuguese critics as the Best Show of 2012 presented in Portugal.
"14 years ago, talking about neurodivergences was a topic that was not touched upon. Little or nothing was said about it, and it was very important for us to make it relevant. Today it is different, it is on everyone's lips and the diagnoses are more accessible. Gladys not only talks about the differences, but also about how complex it is to keep family darkness hidden, covered, silence as denial. The pressure cooker that is seen in our work only tells one form of to live that even though the years pass, we continue to see and live, it is our idiosyncrasy. It is important to show it for that very reason," says the playwright, director and performer of the production.
