La Ligua is shocked by the murder of Dylan, a young woman who the community suspects was a victim of transphobia. The work, directed by Aliocha De la Sotta and written by Bosco Cayo, reveals ignorance and discrimination through the testimonies of his mother, a friend and the murderers.

The talented duo of Aliocha De la Sotta, in the direction and Bosco Cayo in the dramaturgy, brings to the stage the true story of a brutally murdered transgender woman. A work that has toured dozens of stages in Chile, even abroad (Argentina and Venezuela), to be presented at GAM nine years after its premiere.

The Dylan is based on the cruel murder that occurred in La Pintana of the young transsexual Dylan Vera, 26 years old. The author reconstructs the case from multiple voices and places it in the commune of La Ligua, turning the brutality and violence of this discriminatory act into the dark image of a society that fears difference.

"I saw the news, I think on a morning news show. Elvira Parra, Dylan Vera's mother, appeared asking for justice. Her story full of shadows and doubts became a sad but necessary speech for all of us, something was reminding us of something of which we are all guilty. Dramaturgy became a mirage, it was telling the story of one to tell the story of others (us), it was talking about Dylan, but talking about everyone," says Bosco Cayo.

Therefore, everything focuses on the speeches. "The play is told from the voices, what they say, without saying who the characters are. Everyone plays Dylan. It is a play that seeks to incorporate us into guilt. We are all a little guilty of discrimination," adds Cayo. But staging it in 2026 has another aspect: "Being able to present this work again allows us to look and look at ourselves, what we have changed and what we have not changed and then be able to review ourselves," he concludes.

Aliocha De la Sotta, with his company Teatro La Mala Clase, decided to put on the play in 2017. "To present it again is to see how the country has been transforming, how the national discussion in relation to trans bodies, gender identities and all these questions, questions, put into tension throughout these years has been changing and views have been opening in our country. Only when we premiered was gender identity a topic that was not touched upon in the theater,” says the director.

The Culturizarte chronicle of the time described the play like this: "Five actors on stage. None is “El Dylan” but they all talk about him. All with the same dress in different cuts, with patent leather shoes and black jackets. All combined, all symbiotic. Within the drama of the story, there are several moments of comedy. The lighting creates an impeccable montage, which plays with what comes to light and what is hidden, with what stands out versus what must be kept secret. "

“A playful staging, that takes risks with options that work on stage, that builds through testimonies the tragedy of a young transgender murdered for being different and that uses the bodies of its actors”
