DESTINATION HEARTBREAK, a violet journey

He sang on stage, on the radio and on television; She embroidered arpilleras and exhibited them in the Louvre, she wrote a book, they made a documentary about her, she composed songs in Spanish and French, she recorded them, she was in love with the Swiss anthropologist Gilbert Favre. No one would say that things went badly for Violeta Parra during the years she lived in Paris, between 1961 and 1965. There she found recognition that she had not obtained in Chile. But from a distance his lyrics were charged with nostalgia, as in Absent Violet which begins like this: "Why did I come from Chile, so good that I was there. Now I am walking in strange lands, oh, singing but sadly."

DESTINATION HEARTBREAK. A Violet Journeyis a cantata that portrays the musical and personal journey that the artist lived in Europe. The work includes the performance of more than ten of his songs, including emblematic songs such as What have I gotten out of loving you, Look at how they smile, La jardinera and Violeta absente. The voices in charge of the songs and narrations are those of three actors with extensive musical experience: Gabriel Cañas (Mercury, the legend), Daniela Lhorente (Cabaret) and Annie Murath (Piaf).

"From these trips her composition changes, both musically and in the poetic sense of the lyrics. It is the period of molding her journey in search of Chilean folklore and making it known with a universal sense. Her trips allow a musical evolution, rewarding her thought and composition," says Gonzalo Pinto (Drunken Ghosts in Concert), director of the production, who adds: "In this period Violeta Parra, misses, loves and It is constituted from great passions both by its presence or absence, giving rise to great songs in which he talks about his distant family, love at a distance or close and of his distant and beautiful land. “He loves more strongly from a distance.”
