Death through the eyes

"As theater artists, death predominates in our work, as it allows us to reflect and question the world in which we live. Images of death surround us. Death is at the threshold of our thoughts, it lurks in the corners of our eyes and ears, and it is on the screens that connect us with the world. Everywhere we look we see corpses. Bodies that are decapitation, martyrdom, brutality, abuse, massacre, tyranny, arrogance. They are hunger and epidemic. They are indifference."

At a time when governments support wars and indifference to massacres spreads, on stage, two women refer to the value currently given to the body, question the multiple representations of death in the media, and ask the public to reconsider their responsibility in this process. This creation of the Zoukak Theater Company, from Lebanon, was commissioned and co-produced by the Schwindelfrei Theater Festival and premiered in Germany in 2014. After its debut, it has toured Lebanon, India, Rwanda, Norway and France.
