A scenic proposal that interweaves theater, story and movement to explore the poetic power of pain and its transformation into art.

The Chilean production of Danza Delhi emerged in 2014, after the meeting between the director Millaray Lobos García and the writing of the Russian playwright Ivan Viripaiev in France. Since then, the director has translated more than five of his works, establishing a solid artistic and creative bond with the author.

A waiting room in a hospital, the news of a mother's death, lovers who confess their love, a nurse who enters and leaves the scene, an art critique and a dance that is only talked about: all these elements are intertwined in Danza Delhi, a work in seven acts that offers multiple perspectives on the same situation.

The piece is built around a mythical dance, created—according to the text—by a dancer in the center of a market in New Delhi, between misery and horror. This dance, capable of transforming pain into beauty, is never shown to the public, but is evoked through the characters' stories, inviting each spectator to imagine it and build their own poetic montage.

Danza Delhi stresses our perception, our morals and our sensitivity to essential themes such as death, love and filiation.

The directing work deepens the bond with the author through performing laboratory processes carried out in Chile and France, as well as the translation and revision of several of his works. In this way, a writing spread in Chilean territory where certainties dissolve in the paradoxes of the scenic action.

About the author:

Ivan Viripaev is a director, actor and playwright. Of Russian origin, he is one of the most prominent representatives of the current theater scene. Recognized at numerous film and theater festivals, his works have been staged in various theaters in Western and Eastern Europe.
