What would you do if one day your brain failed? Remembering, seeing and moving are, from one moment to the next, a daily battle. The actor Jorge Becker has lived with this condition for 11 years, and today he puts himself at the service of a staging that invites us to think about the human brain. A GAM-Teatro Niño Proletario co-production, directed by Francisco Medina.
"Hello, I'm Jorge. And I'm dead. Dead in life. Slowly extinct..." With that powerful beginning, the work Cerebro opens the reflection on the possibilities of the human mind, taking the case of a person with a disability.
The leitmotiv focuses on the situation of the actor and performer Jorge Becker, a renowned performing artist who has been living for 11 years with the physical and cognitive consequences left by a virus that attacked his brain. His short-term memory prevents him from remembering a text or a choreographic sequence; your vision perceives images in an altered way; The right half of his body does not respond to impulses, and his limbs become stiff as time progresses. How does a brain-body with these characteristics and is far from the technological devices that surround it perceive the world? Could these new technologies help Jorge Becker's brain-body to return to the stage after so long? These are part of the questions that this work raises.
"The proposal of Teatro Niño Proletario is that through a scenic game we can stimulate Jorge Bekcer's brain. Through these simple actions we question our own perception of the world today, where our brains seem to lose their human nature as social beings in the midst of the technological maelstrom that surrounds us," says Francisco Medina, director.
Therefore, the invitation to the public is to immerse themselves in the battle of a human being, Jorge Becker in this case, who has lived for almost 11 years with a brain that does not seem to correspond to the demands of today's world. "This invites us to reflect our own fears and strengths in the face of a reality that in one way or another affects us. Jorge's deep humanity and desire to be back is what we want to bring to the stage. With all the risks that this means," Medina points out.
Teatro Niño Proletario, during its 21 years of artistic work, has investigated new methodologies of stage creation, which go beyond the assembly of dramatic texts, approaching creation from a perspective closer to the laboratory, practical research and the intersection of the arts.

“The audience is invited to a kind of "game" in the present tense, where many of the things that happen on stage will be done at that moment, with a high dose of performativity.”
