Raging melancholy

Three adult brothers, with a high dose of musical emotionality, wait for their dead mother to return. To achieve this, they decide to stop time and keep the four meals alive – breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner – as rituals of coexistence. The way each person reproduces the memory of meals reveals their personal truth. Meanwhile, they talk about the construction of language, the present continuous and the group of “anonymous melancholics” to whom their mother gave singing classes.

In Rabiosa melancholia, the word, the silence and the sounds install a naturalized estrangement, without age, time or place. The actors, also singers, share the stage with the award-winning singer-songwriter Malena Muyala, who also acts. The musical proposal is minimalist, but protagonist, in dialogue with the spoken and sung word. The renowned Uruguayan playwright and director Marianella Morena, who debuted in Santiago a Mil with Las julietas, returns to the festival to premiere her latest work in Chile.
