A reflection on the social and political tensions that our societies go through, repetition, defeat and how and what we can rebuild from there. The new work from the Teatro La Peste Research Center arrives, based on the novel published in 2018 by the Chilean writer and National Literature Prize winner, Diamela Eltit.
A group of men and women are part of a large march that has set out to reach La Moneda. They bring historical demands, failure, pain and betrayals that they want to make visible in that place that they see more distant every day, but above all, they drag a perverse country. A historical loop; the caravan of the usual ones, those who have marched at all times and in multiple places in the world. And so, they will continue to do so. Why continue? Until when? With whom? As far as?
This is how ADD begins; archives of failure, stage adaptation of the novel that Diamela Eltit published in 2018, anticipating the social processes that Chile would experience, revealing the subterfuges of that country/oasis that would later explode in rage.
Through a disturbing scenic proposal, the work invites us to reflect on deep and complex topics, without the intention of indoctrinating, but rather generating questions and sharing them collectively, creating a space for reflection and debate. This is accompanied by a lot of humor, which is also presented as a tool to highlight contradictions and absurdities of a reality where everything is commercialized and lives are trapped in constant repetition with no possibility of progress.
According to the director of the work, Danilo Llanos, "the idea of creating this theatrical project arose from two dimensions of interest. First from reading the novel in 2018, before the gravitational events such as the social outbreak and the pandemic. However, after the social outbreak and the pandemic, the reading, the way of approaching the work, the complexity, the setback and the situation to enter that material is different. And today, when a lot of things have happened, the text continues to install questions, establishing mobilizations, establishing concerns regarding the present, and how it collides with this present from every point of view or from multiple points of view.”
Regarding the relationship that has developed with the renowned national writer, Llanos highlights her “generosity” in providing them with the text. “The generosity of Diamela Eltit is very moving when she provides us with her work so that we can display there, 'whatever we want', as she literally said.”
SUMAR, archives of failure is one of the instances with which the Teatro La Peste Research Center celebrates this year its 25 years of uninterrupted work in the fields of creation, management, training, mediation and territorial work, with more than 30 premieres, touring halls and festivals in the country and abroad.
