Xatarra

Since the beginning of its exploration in the field of improvised music in 2015, Xatarra has developed different models of musical creation, from improvisation with signs to collaboration with resident composers.
In 2023 they released the album titled Cuadros which brings together 6 tracks that combine ambient music, contemporary music and more rhythmic tracks. Previously, they had released the singles Jardín and Naíf.

In addition to their own musical productions, the band has collaborated with artists from other artistic disciplines, ventured into lighting projects together with the artist Sergio Mora-Díaz, as well as with contemporary dance with the choreographer Chery Matus and immersive audio installations with Christopher Manhey. They have also established links with renowned musicians from the electronic scene such as Foex, Bruxista, Imaabs, Sebastian Vergara and Nico Rosenberg, among others.

"Our music mixes electronic music with chamber music. We are currently presenting a piece by Olivier Messiaen from his Quartet for the End of Time and a small excerpt from Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring. If we talk about references, we can mention Brandt Brauer Frick and Alarm Will Sound," says Andrés Abarzúa, musician in Xatarra.

Their arrival at GAM is preceded by a creative residency that the band is awarded thanks to the Popular Music Call. In the recording studio, they have been creating a special performance for this public exhibition. "We want to do a concert in 360º format with the audience surrounding the band and an installation of hanging fabrics forming a cube, which will have the musicians inside said fabric cube," adds Abarzúa. In addition, the show will feature projections by lighting artist Sergio Mora-Díaz.
