With a title that pays tribute to the name of the cargo ship that in 1939 brought 2,200 Spanish exiles to the country, this Thursday the 13th, Winnipeg: migrant music in Chile will be released live, an album that brings together songs by nine foreign artists who reside in the Metropolitan Region, whose presentation in society will feature the participation of various local artists. Among them, the former vocalist of Juana Fe, Juan Ayala; the leader of Weichafe, Angelo Pierattini, and the singer-songwriters María Colores and Rocío Peña.
The material, which will premiere at 7:00 p.m. at GAM, is the result of the work that was carried out at the end of last year in the Migrant Popular Music Schools, an initiative developed for the second year by the National Council of Culture and the Arts - through the Interculturality and Inclusion of Migrants and Rock Schools programs - and which aims to support and make visible the artistic expression of migrant communities in Chile.
There, nine bands and soloists, selected from an open call and from different musical styles and countries of origin, were part of a training process for two months that included classes and workshops on composition, interpretation, stage development and even project management. These were dictated, among others, by Tito Escárate, Juan Gronemeyer (Chico Trujillo), Yeimy Navarro (Gepe choreographer) and the aforementioned Juan Ayala.
The groups and soloists that participated in the project were Afoicuré (Croatia), Ralph Jean Baptiste (Haiti), OSO 507 (Panama), Jorge Zurita (Bolivia), Nixo (Bolivia), Novarmada (Venezuela), Tuba Music (Brazil) and Pamela García (Guatemala). They all recorded one of their songs for the album, which will be available for digital download on Portaldisc starting next week.
