The Capitals

In various quartet, quintet and even sextet formats, the group gained greater visibility in 2006 when they recorded the album It is also cueca with the Feria Music label, a declaration of principles: there they began to develop the idea of ​​that cueca fusion. The album Las Capitalinas presente: en el Bar de Verónica (2009), was the consolidation of those proposals that broke with tradition, considering cueca, bolero and cumbia, which in the process earned them a series of harsh criticisms from certain musical circles.

After the publication of Alterego (2011), the group went on a break, returning in 2014 more renewed in a fusion that was already closer to urban folklore and popular music than strictly to cueca as its root. In 2021 they planned a return to recover from the impact of the pandemic with a new quartet, which included the historic Valeska Duarte, Karen Alfaro and Nayadeth Godoy, and together with the new pianist Carolina Vega. With this cast they would publish the EP album La arremangá (2024) that commemorated the two decades of history as a female cueca and popular music group.
