About the artist:

Sebastián Castro is a Chilean pianist and composer dedicated to improvisation and contemporary jazz. His relationship with music began in his childhood in Teno, Maule Region, in the context of the church and his family environment. Later he studied music theory at the University of Chile, where he acquired a classical foundation that he complemented with private classes with renowned musicians from the local scene.

His interest in jazz was consolidated after his first experiences at the Santiago Jazz Club, which led him to delve deeper into this language and develop an active career as a pianist and composer. Subsequently, he moved to Germany to pursue a Master's Degree in Jazz Piano at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, completing it in 2020.

Throughout his career, he has released the albums Vieja Escuela (2017), Forastero (2018), Far Away (2019), Mixture (2020) and Dadinirt (2021). His most recent album, Ventanas (2023), recorded with Milton Russell (double bass) and Félix Lecaros (drums), was nominated for the Pulsar Awards in the Best Jazz Album category.

He currently leads his own trio, with which he explores a repertoire of original compositions and brings into dialogue his roots, his international experience and his personal approach to improvisation.
