Radio theater Chile laughs and sings

“Radioteatro Chile Ríe y Canta” is a project that seeks to show and recreate the history of the cultural movement of the same name, an initiative that promoted and massified musical expressions with folklore roots both nationally and internationally.

During the 1960s, Chile Ríe y Canta became one of the main stages of The New Chilean Song, hosting fundamental figures such as Víctor Jara, Violeta Parra, Margot Loyola, Gabriela Pizarro, Patricio Manns, Rolando Alarcón, Quilapayún and Inti Illimani, among others.

The movement was created by the communicator, radio host and cultural manager René Largo Farías, who also directed the radio area of ​​the Office of Information and Broadcasting of the Presidency of the Republic (OIR) during the government of President Salvador Allende.

This project seeks to rescue the heritage importance of Chile Ríe y Canta and relive its experience through a radio drama format, offering a current look at one of the most relevant milestones of Chilean popular culture.
