The duo returns to GAM with a geolocated sound device called RESISTE. Based on urban recordings made during the social outbreak and work with interdisciplinary artists, Caroline Chaspoul and Eduardo Henríquez invite us to reflect sonically and poetically on this national event from the present. At its launch we will delve into the creative and research process behind this immersive work.
Nova Materia premieres RESISTE, a sound installation in augmented reality, deployed in Santiago, which - through research that included sound archives from the time and creations by guest interdisciplinary artists - sonically refers to the social outbreak of October 2019.
Through a map of the city that is accessed through an application, artists Caroline Chaspoul and Eduardo Henríquez propose to look at this social event from the present. The experience begins in Plaza Italia and, as the user moves away from this area, the sounds and stories transform.
"It talks about a vision that groups of people can have today of what the explosion was. It means that it is neither fiction, nor science, nor information, that is, it is points of view over time from a look after six years. How today can be recounted retrospectively, but also what conclusions there are and how one can project oneself into the future. So it is the place where we are physically in the city, but also as a living being, how one interprets, because life is always interpretation, so it is like propositions of looking forward and towards back, under the experience of the explosion," says Caroline Chaspoul.
With RESISTE the artists seek to carry out an act of collective memory and reflection on how the movement was quickly made invisible or frequently reduced to episodes of violence and chaos.

Likewise, they introduce an ecological and philosophical dimension by interpreting the social outbreak as a living ecosystem. By transforming the sounds of the demonstrations, they begin to resonate with those of a jungle. Following this discovery, the authors propose a radical metaphor: understanding the manifestations as an interdependent system, where each voice, each gesture, each action, is connected in an organic network of resistance and regeneration.
The voices invited to be part of this geolocated work with stories or texts that are heard at different points on the map are Ana Harcha, Kütral Vargas Huaiquimilla, Belén Gallardo, Colectivo LASTESIS, Colombina Parra, Jorge Gonzáles, Nona Fernández, Pepo Silva, Andrea Paz, UDLA Architecture students, among others. While the urban sound archive was rescued by Eduardo Henríquez himself in November 2019 with immersive microphones.
At the launch of RESISTE, Nova Materia will present this geolocated device, revealing its operation, the research and creative residence behind it. Additionally, through a performance they will share with those present part of the work process and intervention of the sound material.
Finally, in relation to the name of the project, the founders of PÁNICO point out that "resisting was a word that was heard a lot during the outbreak and it says many things. In this case, it is also resisting oblivion, resisting obviousness, resisting mediocrity, resisting not thinking, resisting non-critical thinking, resisting being people who do not think in an era that asks one to be a person who takes a position and that asks one to think about one's era. So it is a word that kind of brings all that together."

Duo formed by the founders of the group PANICO, Caroline Chaspoul and Eduardo Henriquez, French-Chilean composers, multidisciplinary musicians and sound artists based in Paris. His work explores the relationship between matter and sound, transforming raw materials such as steel or stone into resonant surfaces using electroacoustic devices. Inspired by acoustic archeology and the memory of materials, Nova Materia creates immersive works that question our relationship with time, sound and history.
In addition to their compositions and installations, the duo develops site-specific works and transdisciplinary projects that integrate artificial intelligence, geolocation and spatialized sound, such as Rémanence, Xpujil, Invisible Flows or RESISTE, an augmented sound installation that runs through urban space.
Parallel to their exhibition work, Nova Materia regularly performs live with concerts of physical and hypnotic energy, in which they combine unconventional instruments, real-time manipulation of sound objects and processed electronic landscapes. Their live music moves between industrial post-punk, experimental electronics and synth wave, with intense rhythms and metallic textures.
