The jazz orchestra turns 10 years old and will celebrate it at GAM with a concert that covers its successes as a big band. Their music is a social project that includes educational concerts with albums such as El imaginario, noisy y resonante mundo de Fortunato y Mapocho Orquesta (2022).

With 10 years of experience and four own recordings to its credit, the orchestra is characterized by its constant collaboration with other national artists (Ana Tijoux, Inti-illimani, Valentin Trujillo, etc.), providing a different sound in outstanding productions of Chilean popular music. At the same time, the group develops educational concerts in different establishments and theaters, thus generating a strong commitment to musical education in Chile.

Formed in 2014 by former members of the Conchalí Big Band, it is currently made up of 17 outstanding musicians from the popular area led by trombonist Alfredo Tauber. The Mapocho Orchestra seeks to transmit a message, using music as a channel to express freedom and commitment, with a powerful show and a refreshing sound.

The influence of the great classical swing orchestras is reflected in their sounds. "Our sources of inspiration are bands like Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Stan Kenton, and some more modern ones like Buddy Rich and Thad Jones and jazz composers like Wayne Shorter, Charles Mingus, among others," says Alfred Tauber, director of the orchestra.

This creative influence on the orchestra is transformed into a search for a modern jazz language, mixed with Latin American music and influences from African-American music, such as soul, hiphop, and funk, creating a broad and adaptive identity.

"At GAM we will be presenting a short tour of our publications from these 10 years, in addition to presenting a small preview of our next publication to be presented in 2025, and we will have some guests who will enrich the experience for the public," adds Tauber.
