Lullaby

A mother struggles to find the right song to put her baby to sleep, her attempts are lost in the protest songs coming in through the window and her unease increases as the uprising grows. Can he bring peace to his son in the midst of a fight for his own future? Whose fight is it, anyway? Lullaby follows a woman caught between a turbulent inner and outer world, singing her way from isolation to connectivity.

In search of a song to calm herself and her baby, they venture into the night and what unfolds is an unexpected journey full of twists. It is an opera for a voice about contemporary anxiety, through a metaphor about social polarization, participation and motherhood.

Studio Minailo, is an Amsterdam-based opera and musical theater company led by director Sjaron Minailo. Minailo specializes in minimalist, stage-specific opera creations that break the conventions of tradition and space. Minailo's most recent productions have been seen at the Venice Biennale, New York Prototype Festival, Holland Festival, Opera La Monnaie, Dutch Nationale Opera, Bergen National Opera, Tempo Festival Rio de Janeiro and O. Festival. Sjaron Minailo is the artistic head of the Musical Theater department at ArtEZ and artist-curator of the Dutch National Opera's Opera Forward Festival.
