Interferences 2: Diego Noguera

Live music and the work of musicians will spread to new spaces for the second time, with guests temporarily occupying the concert hall, the recording studio and also unexpected places. This is the INTERFERENCIAS project, which opens new dates in 2024.

The first musical meeting will be unprecedented until now in the country for live shows. Synthesizers and electronic sequences will intersect with the tradition of the Chilean guitarrón and poetic singing. For a week, the composer Diego Noguera will be at GAM in a musical residency with the guitarist Manuel Sánchez, after previous collaborations (for theater and the album I had a name, from 2023) that have allowed them to discover the sonic power of experimenting with the amplification of the guitarrón and its real-time processing through machines and effects.

After this residency and their time in the recording studio, both creators will conclude with a live presentation, an immersive invitation of lights and sound, which, in their words, "can be felt more in the body than in the head." There will be machines and three guitarróns inside a dark room set by a lighting design specially created for the meeting.

This interference seeks to reproduce in space what the guitarrón manages to do in its acoustic box with its twenty-five strings, a kind of natural reverberation. "Precisely that immersive character was what surprised me so much about the guitarrón when I heard it for the first time, and it is what I would like to expand on in this intervention. It is an instrument that organically and emotionally presents a very complex world—like that of the human body—that defies Western tuning," says Diego Noguera.

Manuel Sánchez, poet, payador and master of the guitarrón, is one of the most advanced in this field. He has collaborated with Fabiola González, Mauricio Redolés and the Chilean Traditional Ensemble, adding his voice and the guitarrón at the service of other forms of folklore and popular song. This time, it will be no different.

"With Manuel we aim at a similar creative world, within which the guitarrón is a physical and emotional response to feelings. Therefore, we seek to create a space that functions as a kind of world in itself. An ecosystem in which the audience enters and becomes part, without frontality," Noguera points out.

The Chilean composer, producer and performer, based since 2019 in Berlin (Germany), leads this interference with a vast career creating music for theater, film and dance. Noguera also maintains his own discography, first in the duo País Violento and then in a solo work supported by machines, voices and acoustic instruments with which he seeks to "travel landscapes until reaching a sonic catharsis." Their most recent album is the LP I had a name (2023).
