A pioneering event in Chile dedicated to the dissemination of Manouche Jazz, a genre that fuses the gypsy tradition with jazz swing and that arrived in Chile in the 1940s. The festival will have free activities in different regions and will have its final closing in GAM.
The Django CL Festival will celebrate its eighth edition this year, consolidating itself as one of the most important jazz manouche gatherings in Latin America.
On this occasion, the guest country will be Argentina, with a delegation of musicians who reinforce the cultural ties between both countries. This year the Festival will pay tribute to Oscar Alemán, trans-Andean guitarist, composer and singer, considered one of the most prominent figures of jazz in Latin America during the 20th century. His music, deeply influenced by the style of Django Reinhardt - as he shared with the father of manouche when it was developing in Europe - not only enriched the musical panorama of his time, but also opened paths for new generations of swing and gypsy jazz musicians.
The festival will feature the participation of the trans-Andean Ricardo Pellican, who is a guitarist, bassist, composer, teacher and artistic producer, artistic director of the festival of the same name in his country and one of the greatest references of manouche jazz in Latin America.
Another relevant presence is that of Lara Fichera, a renowned Argentine singer and double bassist and composer, whose proposal mixes gypsy jazz with popular music (and will also be accompanied by guitarist Néstor Gómez). Her style has positioned her as one of the most interesting emerging voices on the scene. Her participation reinforces the female presence in the festival, which is completed by the Chilean artists Andrea Gutiérrez (Chile), Ana María Barría (Chile), Paulina Iturra (Chile) and Danka Villanueva (Chile), among others.
Likewise, this sample of jazz manouche will feature the participation of the national virtuoso bassist Christian Gálvez, an undisputed reference for the instrument. He has a career that has led him to collaborate with musicians such as Stanley Clarke and Billy Cobham. He has also been a sessionist for popular national icons such as Myriam Hernández.
At GAM, Hermanouche, Santiago Royal and Patricio Rohers will also perform as guest soloist.
The Django Reinhardt CL Music Festival is possible thanks to the National Music Fund 2024, with its Live Music / Career Festivals line. The programming is completely free, and includes concerts, jams, master classes, social dance sessions and other gatherings.
