This new version of the IMUC String Cycle consists of four programs that complement each other, forming a dialogue that ranges from Baroque music (Drama in absolute music), through classicism with a tribute to W. A. Mozart (Mozart in chamber), German Romanticism (Schumann), up to the very particular styles of Eugène Ysaÿe and Serguei Prokofiev (Duet Sonatas).
Tuesday June 7: Schumann
As the name of this first concert makes explicit, the program is dedicated to the brilliant composer of German Romanticism Robert Schumann (1810-1856). On this occasion, the auditor will be entertained with the Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 1 in A minor and the Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2 in D minor, a genre that the composer addressed only at the end of his career, influenced by the friendship he maintained with famous violinists such as David, Joachim and Wasielewski. The performance of this concert will be performed by Oriana Silva (violin) and Liza Chung (piano).
Tuesday, June 14: Duet Sonatas
The second concert of the string cycle is dedicated to the violin duo, a group that dates back to the very origins of the instrument (17th century). Hence, this program invites us to take a tour through composers who, although stylistically far from each other, in their works we can find an undisputed technical and musical demand as a common pattern. Tuesday, June 21: The drama in absolute music
The repertoire of this concert takes us back to the Baroque, especially the German Baroque, and the rupture that signified the passage from a musical conception based on textuality and the human voice to one in which instruments and emotions acquire primary importance. The term “absolute music”, in this case (and distancing itself from its romantic conception), refers to works that, although they no longer depend on a text, in one way or another manage to create a true drama through the musical description of temperaments. In this way, the expressiveness of the solo instruments, in this case the violin and the viola da gamba, accompanied by the basso continuo, invite the listener to enter the world of affections. It is precisely for this purpose that works by Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, August Kühnel, Samuel Capricornus, Georg Muffat, Philipp Heinrich Erlebach and Dietrich Buxtehude have been chosen. The interpretation will be carried out by Oriana Silva (violin), Florencia Bardavid (viola da gamba) and Alejandro Reyes (harpsichord).
