The 60th UC Chamber Season continues at GAM with two concerts celebrating great composers who changed the history of music: Gustav Mahler, Arnold Schoenberg and Gustav Holst.

The concert on October 9, called Mahler and Schoenberg, songs for voice and orchestra contemplates the iconic Songs of the Wanderer by Gustav Mahler, a cycle of deeply philosophical lieder by this famous bohemian composer, in the orchestration performed by Arnold Schoenberg. Then, 150 years after the birth of Arnold Schoenberg, a chamber version of the 6 Orchesterlieder will be presented, a cycle of songs inspired by nature and the heartbreak of this influential Austrian composer.

The soprano Claudia Pereira and the baritone Patricio Sabaté will perform as soloists, together with the Contemporary Ensemble, conducted by Aliocha Solovera.

On October 23, the concert is titled Pierrot! 150th Anniversary Schoenberg/Holstand has the direction of guest teacher Rodolfo Fischer, who will stage Pierrot Lunaire by Arnold Schoenberg, a composition that caused a great impact at its premiere in 1912, and which is a song cycle with poems by the symbolist poet Albert Giraud. It is a capital work of the 20th century.

In addition, the Chilean premiere of Petroushskates by Joan Tower (1938), a Grammy-winning American composer whose work has been commissioned by the Chicago Symphony and the New York Philharmonic. This work was written in 1980 and is a rereading of the ballet Petroushka, by Igor Stravinsky, and was written by Joan Tower.

The program is completed with Four Songs for Voice and Violin by Gustav Holst, a collection from 1903 that shows the most intimate side of the creator of The Planets. UC professors and guests will perform: soprano Claudia Pereira, Oriana Silva on violin and Celso López on cello, along with former UC Music student Nicolás Guerrero on clarinet, plus Juan Pablo Aguayo on flute and Jorge Pepi-Alós on piano.
