Call 2019

GAM, Gabriela Mistral Center, opens the next call for artistic projects in the field of performing, visual arts and national popular music. This includes performing arts in the disciplines of theater, performance, contemporary and urban dance, interdisciplinary performances of performing arts, productions for family audiences and contemporary circus arts; visual arts in the disciplines of photography, design, architecture and contemporary art; popular music with an emphasis on genres other than classical music, among others.  The proposals selected in this way will be part of the 2019 artistic programming.

There are different ways of entering programming for GAM's annual offering, one of the most relevant being the open call that constitutes these participation bases for national artists.

In addition to this modality, GAM generates other programmatic income which may consist of: direct invitations from the programming and audience management under the criteria that articulate management interests and/or specific content; own productions; GAM co-productions and management of national and international projects. The curatorial lines of these formats are defined internally and are carried out in a manner consistent with this call.

Objectives of the call
— Select and disseminate projects by national creators, which demonstrate artistic quality premieres and/or revivals, in order to configure a varied offer for our audiences.
— Promote the linking of performing arts projects with strategies for audience formation and territorial linkage.
— Expand the creative and circulation crossings between Santiago and the regions of the country.
— Diversify the offer in the arts scenic in the national context, generating an inclusive and pluralistic view of contents and formats.

Approaches, authorships and disciplines
For the Call for Performing Arts proposals that express the following approaches, authorships or disciplines will be privileged:
a) They integrate contemporary views or languages.
b) Projects of premieres or re-releases in the following disciplines or categories: theater, performance, contemporary and urban dance, interdisciplinary arts productions performing arts, productions for family audiences and contemporary circus arts.

For the Call for Visual Arts, priority will be given to proposals that:
a) Integrate contemporary views or languages.
b) Include visual artists or national curators, in the disciplines of photography, design, architecture and contemporary art.
c) Include unpublished materials and works.
d) Develop a proposal for linking with the public, mediation and/or audience training.

For the Call for Popular Music and Recording Studioprivileged are proposals that:
a) Integrate contemporary views or languages ​​within the field of popular music.
b) Emphasis is placed on genres other than classical music, given that GAM already has a stable offer in this musical language through its collaboration agreements in force with other institutions.

GAM does not have mandatory artistic lines for its programming. The themes and artistic styles for this application are free and must respond to the creative interests of national artists and/or creators. However, in order to articulate segments of programmatic work that act as references to social dialogue, special attention will be paid to those projects that, for the year 2019, are related to the following axes:

• Memory, Heritage and Utopias: The field of memory will continue to investigate those themes that value aspects linked to the physical and symbolic history of GAM as a country agent. Thematic articulations that enhance the aesthetic, architectural, political and symbolic narrative of our building are encouraged from the construction of UNCTAD III to the present.
  The look at heritage will be dedicated to the celebration of the 100th birthday of Isidora Aguirre, Chilean playwright and one of the most outstanding women of Chilean theater of the 20th century. We highlight his works, and his popular and critical view of the country's social facts as programmatic incentives.
  We focus on utopias on paradigms and themes that speak of shifts in the political, economic and cultural view as agents of social change. The premise “Art and Counterculture” will question how great social shifts generate views, movements and communities around cultural ideologies. With special attention this year we will delve into milestones that have generated counterculture movements such as the 50 years of the New Chilean Song, the 100 years of the Bauhaus and the 80 years of the arrival of Winnipeg to Chile, among others.
• Young audiences and the family segment: 30 years after the United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child, GAM focuses on the relevance of these audiences as key agents in the formation of new audiences and in the construction of cultural capital. The universal recognition of their rights is celebrated with an emphasis on non-discrimination of children, recognizing with special attention refugees, migrants, disabled people and minorities.
• Birthday of Gabriela Mistral: The name of GAM honors the poet Gabriela Mistral, Nobel Prize winner in Literature who in 2019 commemorates the 130th anniversary of her birth. Artistic proposals are received that address biographical aspects of Mistral, as well as a focus on her facets related to her groundbreaking outlook, innovative in her social work in the political, gender, and field of education.
